D. Kipshidze acted as the Rector of Tbilisi State University (1938-1942) and later served as a Director of Institute of Pedagogy of Georgian SSR until 1949.
David Kipshidze was born in the village Alaverdi, Zestaponi district in 1902. In 1921, he completed Kutaisi Non-Classical School and continued his studies in Tbilisi State University. In 1925, he completed course in Philosophy at the faculty of Pedagogy. In April 1947, D. Kipshidze defended the dissertation on Subject of Pedagogy and was awarded a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences degree. D. Kipshidze wrote a number of essays on the theories and history of pedagogy. In 1947, D. Kipshidze was appointed the head of the faculty of Pedagogy at the Kutaisi Institute of Pedagogy and meanwhile worked as an Associate Professor at the faculty of Pedagogy at the Tbilisi State University until his death on August 31, 1975.
