Masters Program in Law

The aim of the master’s program in law is to prepare specialists of the level of post bachelor’s degree, to provide masters with necessary skills and competencies for undertaking independent scientific research and practical activities. Hence, practical component is compulsory in master’s program. According to the established regulations, 30 credits out of 120 credits necessary for MA program must be fulfilled through the practical component. At the same time, within the framework of the required 30 credits, postgraduates must undertake the course of judicial ethics (5 credits) and practical skills (7 credits). The remaining 18 credits must be obtained through working at the legal clinic.
Clinical
legal education has its roots in the United States and is nowadays included in
the law faculties’ educational programs of the universities of many developed
countries. The establishment of the legal clinics at the Faculty of Law of
Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is connected with the transformation
of one-step educational system into two-step educational system.
At
present, there are more than 10 legal clinics operating at the MA program.
