Rector of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Academician Vladimer Papava awarded the winners of the competition No to Violence initiated by the Georgian Interior Ministry. Deputy Interior Minister, Levan Izoria, Head of the Interior Ministry’s Public Relations Department, Nino Giorgobiani, TSU professors and students attended the event.
TSU Rector, Vladimer Papava said: “Only the efforts of the Interior Ministry are not enough to cope with violence; the entire society needs to be mobilized. Our students have successfully joined the Interior Ministry’s campaign. The product created by them will be more understandable and acceptable for the youth.”
“I want to express my gratitude to the journalism students from TSU, who actively joined the campaign No to Violence. Democracy needs active citizens, professionals, including professional journalists, who will provide impartial coverage of this problem and show the ways of problem resolution. Only the Interior Ministry’s resources are not enough for prevention of violence; domestic violence can be overcome only through active public involvement,” Deputy Interior Minister Levan Izoria said.
“There are topics on which each and every person should have own position. We, the students, expressed our attitude towards domestic violence through video clips. We will welcome if others share our position too,” TSU student, Ani Burduli said.
About 100 media products (newspaper publications, TV and radio stories) were presented at the competition announced by the Interior Ministry. In frames of broadcast media, three groups from TSU presented three video clips with two of them winning the competition. The winning video clips were shown at the event.
