Changes and Modern Development Tendencies in Georgian Criminal Law (Criminal and Criminological Aspects)
An international conference ‘Changes and Modern Development Tendencies in Georgian Criminal Law (Criminal and Criminological Aspects)’ was opened at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on July 18. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, representatives of TSU academic circles and Georgian juridical society as well as foreign experts participated in the event.
The conference will discuss various issues of criminalistics, including substantive criminal law: juvenile criminal law (criminal and criminology issues); amendments to criminal law: punishment; (substantive criminal law and criminology issues) methodology of criminal law and private part.
TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “Georgian school of criminology has a rich tradition. TSU Faculty of Law has always been distinguished in this respect. Holding of such international conference at TSU is quite natural. We are sure that this meeting will be interesting, successful and fruitful.”
“The issues to be discussed at the conference are related to practice along with theory. It is interesting that we will discuss both Georgian criminal law as well as international legal norms. International tendencies, conventions and globalization process make it expedient to take international practice into consideration and define what particular amendments should be made to legislation. Crime has long gone beyond the limits of one country; therefore, there are a lot of developments, which are regulated by international law,” Director of the TSU Institute of Criminology, Emeritus Professor Mzia Lekveishvili said.
The event was organized by the Institute of Comparative and Transnational Criminal Law and the Institute of Criminology at TSU. It will last for two days.
