Education for the 21st century: Multiculturalism, Children’s Rights and Global Citizenship
Gordon Academic College of Education (GACE) , a coordinator of the International European Commission Tempus Project DOIT (Development of an International Model for Curricular Reform in Multicultural Education and Cultural Diversity Training), hosted a final meeting and international conference on “Education for the 21st century: Multiculturalism, children’s rights and global citizenship” in Haifa, Israel. 150 speakers from over 10 countries, including Israel, Georgia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Lithuania, Great Britain and USA participated in the conference. Professor James A. Banks, the founding director of the Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Washington, was among keynote speakers. He is a specialist in social studies education and multicultural education and has written widely in these fields.
TSU was represented in the project by Associate Professor Izabella Petriashvili, project co-coordinator from the Georgian side, the Institute of Pedagogy of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences; Professor Nino Chikovani; Associate Professor Ketevan Kakitelashvili, the Institute of Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Humanities; upon special invitation, Deputy Rector of TSU, Professor Ioseb Salukvadze.
During the final meeting of the consortium, Prof. Izabella Petriashvili presented a report on TSU’s participation in the project and its achievements. TSU professors involved in the project presented interesting papers in the sphere of multicultural education. http://sites.gordon.ac.il/conf2015/
