Student Self-Governance elections will be held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on November 25. Bakhva Kvirikashvili, acting president of the TSU Student Self-Governance, said that “voting was initially scheduled for May, but in view of recent developments at the university, it was postponed. According to the regulations of the TSU Student Self-Governance, elections can be postponed by six months. Just therefore, the voting was set for November 25.”
Bakhva Kvirikashvili said that the rule of electing the members (delegates) of the TSU Self-Governance has been amended. He also noted that TSU students will directly elect 140 delegates (20 delegates from each of seven faculties).
“I call on the university administration to promote holding of fair, democratic and direct elections, as well as to ensure safety during pre-election and election periods,” Bakhva Kvirikashvili said. He also called on local non-governmental organizations to monitor the election process.
