Winners of BAT Competition Awarded at TSU
The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted a ceremony of awarding the students winning the British American Tobacco (BAT) competition. The company will pay one year tuition fees for 12 students winning the competition.
The chairman of the competition commission, Georgian Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri, as well as the commission members – Deputy Rector Marine Chitashvili and BAT Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Director Zviad Skhvitaridze handed over certificates to the winners.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank British American Tobacco, who took the first, very serious step in this direction. I hope that other business representatives will also contribute to this huge undertaking. I also want to thank the students, who participated in this competition. I think that British American Tobacco enabled at least 12 students to complete their studies without any problems,” Deputy Rector Marine Chitashvili said.
Georgian Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri said that British American Tobacco will pay tuition fees for successful students that will help them settle their financial problems. “I would like to thank the British American Tobacco Georgia Office for this excellent undertaking. I am deeply convinced that other successful companies will also share this initiative and help the students dedicate less time to searching for financial resources and more time – to learning and education,” the minister said.
“This is an important part of our company’s social corporate responsibility. We will continue similar projects with TSU and other universities too. It is important that other business companies also take part in similar projects,” BAT Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Director Zviad Skhvitaridze said.
24 students from the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Law were selected in the first round of competition - 12 students from each faculty. The second round identified 12 winners. The following evaluation criteria were used: leadership skills, academic performance, need for financial support, work experience, communication skills, motivation, etc.
