Landscape Dimensions of Sustainable Development: Science – Planning – Governance
About 100 scientists from 16 countries attended the international conference “Landscape Dimensions of Sustainable Development: Science – Planning – Governance” held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). The conference was dedicated to the 70th birth anniversary of Prof. Nikoloz Beruchashvili, internationally-renowned geographer and cartographer.
“The Tbilisi State University is hosting a very interesting conference on landscape studies, which is dedicated to the memory of Nikoloz Beruchashvili, internationally-renowned geographer and cartographer. Prof. Nikoloz Beruchashvili had led our department for years and had been one of the leading scientists worldwide. A lot of his colleagues and students have arrived to attend the conference. They are discussing important issues related to geomorphology, landscape. The event is being held within the framework of International Science and Innovation Festival. Besides foreign researchers, our students are also participating. They will have communication with foreign researchers that will promote further popularization of science,” Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze said.
“I am glad to be in Tbilisi and participate in such an important conference. It is important that the conference is hosted by the Tbilisi State University, whose Professor, Nikoloz Beruchashvili was a famous geographer and expert in landscape studies. During the conference, scientists from various foreign countries will discuss future perspectives of the field; the topics on the agenda will be related to science, research, social and economic issues,” Andrey Kushlin of FAO said.
Along with Georgian geographers, scientists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Chile and Turkey presented papers on the latest research in landscape studies, scientific literature, and discussed Beruchashvili’s contribution to the development of the field.
