Learning Our Rights through Role-Playing

About 150 pupils will get involved in role play and moot court trials at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University during four days as well as receive information about human rights and protection guarantees. “Learning our Rights through Role-Playing” is the name of a joint project implemented by TSU and Innovative-Practical Educational Center (IPEC). The project presentation was held at TSU on January 9. Final-year pupils from various schools of Tbilisi and Georgian regions are participating in the event. Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Tamar Zarandia, founder of IPEC, TSU Professor Vasil Gonashvili met with the participants.

Rector George Sharvashidze said: “This project has a very good format. It is the best means for acquainting young people with their rights; it will help them make decisions on their future professions. We expect that many of these 150 pupils will become TSU students.”

Dean of the TSU Faculty of Law, Tamar Zarandia said that the interest towards the project is high as pupils from Tbilisi and various regions are participating in it. “It is very important to give schoolchildren education on major issues, among them human rights, from their school age,” she noted.

IPEC founder, Vasil Gonashvili said that protection of human rights and freedom as well as promoting the right to education is very important for the University and generally for the country. “Therefore, children should learn about human rights from their school age that will help them make an informed choice and protect their own and others’ right in everyday life,” Vasil Gonashvili said.

TSU is implementing a number of projects for schoolchildren. “Learning Our Rights through Role-Playing” is the first project through which schoolchildren are informed about human rights through role-playing.
