Mariam Lortkipanidze’s 95th Anniversary

The 95th birth anniversary of Academician Mariam Lortkipanidze was marked at the Parliament of Georgia on September 12. The screening of a documentary “What has the History Done?” and a video chronicle “Life of Kartli with Mariam Lortkipanidze” was attended by Georgian lawmakers, representatives of academic, scientific circles and society, as well as Mariam Lortkipanidze’s family members and friends. The screening was followed by a solemn reception hosted by Parliamentary Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze. The latter focused on Lortkipanidze’s contribution and service to the country.   
 
The event was organized by the parliamentary committee for education, science and culture.
 
“We planned several months ago to host Marika Lortkipanidze’s anniversary event in the Parliament. We mark not only her merits in the direction of science, but also her personal dignity, as well as the love and respect that she deserved from all generations,” Mariam Jashi, chairperson of the parliamentary committee for education, science and culture, said after the film screening.
 
Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Sharvashidze said that Mariam Lortkipanidze’s public work is exemplary. “I am glad that Marika Lortkipanidze’s public work has been appreciated again and the Parliament of Georgia is now marking her anniversary. Her work is not related only to historiography or public work. She made a huge contribution to working with the youth and it is exemplary for many people,” Giorgi Sharvashidze said.  
 
Nino Kakulia, editor of TSU newspaper Tbilisis Universiteti is the author and film director of the documentary “What has the History Done?” Sulkhan Meladze of Caucasus International University is the author of the video chronicle “Life of Kartli with Mariam Lortkipanidze.”
 
Presentation of a book “What has the History Done?” prepared by the TSU newspaper Tbilisis Universiteti and dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Mariam Lortkipanidze was also held during the solemn reception.
