The institutions have been ranked based on 13 indicators that measure their academic research performance and their global and regional reputations, as well as number of publications, scientific books, quality of conferences and a share of universities in the most cited publications. The survey is also built on academics’ opinions about world universities, their views of programs in the disciplines with which they were familiar.
According to the 2020 Best Global Universities Rankings, the United States is still leading with 261 universities; Harvard University has been listed first in the rankings.
