2nd International Staff Week at TSU
The 2nd International Staff Week has been opened as part of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). Representatives of 20 universities from 10 European countries are participating. The event is being coordinated by the TSU Department of Foreign Relation and held under the auspices of UNESCO.
Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze; Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Alexander Tevzadze; Director of National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, Tamar Sanikidze; Head of International Education Center, Nino Chelidze; Deputy Director of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Nino Gachechiladze; Coordinator of National Erasmus+ Office (NEO) Georgia, Lika Glonti, as well as invited guests attended the event.
Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze hailed the fact that “such high level meeting is being held in an EU non-member state for the second time.” We have 150 partner universities only in Europe. 121 projects have been implemented in frames of Erasmus+. It means that more and more students are getting involved in the mobility programs. They have an opportunity to get education at European universities and then return to their native alma mater – Tbilisi State University.”
“Our foreign partners arrived at our university and established direct contacts with Georgian students, academic and administrative staff. Internationalization of higher education and science is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Alexander Tevzadze said.
Coordinator of National Erasmus+ Office (NEO) Georgia, Lika Glonti said that “Tbilisi State University is the most successful educational institution throughout the post-Soviet space in the context of Erasmus+ program, in terms of number of scholarships, projects. We hope that the Staff Week will further deepen this relationship.”
“Spain, particularly the University of A Coruña pays special attention to deepening relations with Georgia and Tbilisi State University,” Ana López Pampín, head of International Relations Office of the University of A Coruña, said.
The purpose of the International Staff Week is to increase TSU involvement in the EU-funded Erasmus+ international credit mobility program as well as to deepen contacts.
