All Main Educational Buildings of TSU will be Renovated by Late 2024

“By late 2024, all main educational buildings of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University will be renovated,” Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze said when inspecting external lighting of TSU Building 1 and Building 2 together with Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze. He said that TSU has launched a lot of infrastructure projects. The second stage of complete rehabilitation of Building 2 is currently underway. 
“This huge building is twice larger than Building 1 and no rehabilitation works have been conducted there since the 1950s. Complete rehabilitation works are underway with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. The first stage of rehabilitation works has been over and internal works are now underway. 800 windows, roof, toilets and central heating system have been changed; its façade has been renovated. So, half of the building will be renovated by the beginning of the new academic year,” Rector Sharvashidze said. 
GEL 21.3 million has been allocated to finance the second stage of rehabilitation works at TSU Building 2. By decree of the Government of Georgia, the funding was allocated by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. Internal renovation works began in 2019 and will be over in 2021. The entire building will be rehabilitated during this period – its fire and ventilation systems, as well as elevators will be installed. Upon completion of renovation works, Building 2 will fully meet modern international standards. A total of 25,000 sq./m area will be renovated. Rehabilitation works at Building 2 started in 2018 and will end in 2021. 
TSU Building 2 was built in 1940. It was designed by architect Mikheil Shavishvili in line with the architecture and style of TSU Building 1. The latter was renovated in 2008-2011 with the financial support of Cartu Foundation. 
Speaking about infrastructure projects planned at TSU, Rector Sharvashidze said that “a huge student dormitory will be built near TSU Maglivi Building, which will accommodate 3,000 students. It will be the biggest dormitory throughout Caucasus, a student city, and its construction will end in 2021.” 
Presently, Tbilisi State University incorporates 27 buildings used for academic and research purposes.
