Clean-up Event at TSU

Students, academics and faculty members of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) dedicated a clean-up event held on January 25 to the 90th anniversary of TSU Professor, famous environmentalist and scientist, Shota Adamia. The clean-up initiative was first voiced by TSU students during a Facebook live with Rector George Sharvashidze.

“Similar events should be arranged not only on the territory adjacent to the 1st Building, but it should also involve other buildings of TSU. This initiative should be supported. Today, we mark the anniversary of a famous scientist, geologist, environmentalist, Prof. Shota Adamia and this event is our students’ gift for him,” Rector George Sharvashidze noted.

After cleaning up the territory adjacent to the university, it was decided to arrange a youth space there. “It is important for us to arrange such spaces, where students will be able to spend their free time. This time, the clean-up event will be conducted on the territory adjacent to the 1st Building of TSU, but we plan to clean up the territories adjacent to all other buildings,” President of TSU Student Self-Governance, Shota Kezherashvili said.

TSU Professor Elguja Mekvabishvili focused on the ecological situation in the capital and stressed the importance of similar events: “We are frequently complaining about pollution in the city. But now we have decided to stop complaining and move to practical action. We jointly cleaned up the territory adjacent to TSU. Maybe, others will also follow suit and clean up their own yards, entrances and districts.”

TSU Professor Revaz Shanidze said that similar events are frequently organized at various European and American universities and students and academics jointly participate in them. “I also graduated from TSU. This area is native for me. I am happy that I have made a small contribution to the clean-up event,” he said.   

The clean-up event initiated by TSU students was held with the support of TSU Administration, Ecological Security Foundation and Tbilisi City Hall.
