Georgian Language Week Closed
The Georgian Language Week was closed at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) with an exhibition “The Stronghold of Nationality.” Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze, Head of the Department of the Official Language, Giorgi Alibegashvili, foreign diplomats accredited in Georgia, students and professors attended the event.
By the end of the Georgian Language Week, the University Medal was awarded to a number of people for speaking literary Georgian language, among them foreign diplomats: Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy, Elizabeth Rood; British Ambassador to Georgia, Justin McKenzie Smith; Kartvelologist and former attaché at the Embassy of Japan to Georgia, Yasuhiro Kojima; also public figure, writer Kote Jandieri; journalist Tamar Tsagareishvili; prominent scientist Meri Nikolaishvili; young scientists, Niko Kelbakiani and Giorgi Jgarkava; translator Ani Kopaliani. The winners were revealed by the special commission composed of TSU professors and public figures.
