The first recipient of Rector’s Scholarship has been revealed at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. By decision of the Rector’s Scholarship Commission, Mariam Gulbiani, student from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences has become the recipient of scholarship for the 2013-2014 spring semester. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Chairman of the Rector’s Scholarship Commission, Vice Rector, Academician Levan Aleksidze and members of the commission attended the awarding ceremony.
TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “It was decided as far back as the end of last century to establish TSU Rector’s Scholarship for our best undergraduate student – the best performing student, who would not be the recipient of another scholarship. Out of six best performing students from the university, the commission selected one – Mariam Gulbiani. We congratulate Mariam and wish her success. Similar encouragements will largely contribute to increasing education interest among young people.”
“It is a great honor for me to become the winner among so many successful students. This is a huge motivation for me. I want to express my gratitude to TSU Rector and the members of the commission. My ancestors were the students of TSU and all of them were recipients of scholarships. So, I am happy that I am following their path,” Mariam Gulbiani said.
On initiative of TSU Rector Vladimer Papava, for the first time in the history of TSU, the special commission selected the best performing undergraduate student, who will receive a scholarship at GEL250 from the Rector’s salary on a monthly basis.
Future recipients will be selected by the commission during each semester. Besides the best academic performance, potential scholarship recipients should meet other criteria too, such as participation in scientific conferences, writing scientific articles and papers, etc.
