Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) maintains leading positions in the state grant competition for young scientists announced by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation in 2018.
12 out of 33 winning projects (36% of winning projects) were submitted by young scientists from TSU. In 2017, six out of 23 winning projects (26% of winning projects) were submitted by young scientists from TSU.
In order to obtain grant in the frame of the Call for Research Grants for Young Scientists, a proposal should be submitted jointly by the host institution and a young scientist, having attained the PhD degree during 7 years prior to the Call announcement. The competition aims to enhance the quality of research by supporting projects of young scientists, to promote their involvement in interdisciplinary scientific cooperation. Also, to help higher education institutions strengthen their scientific research environment.
Within the frame of the call, young scientists can submit project proposals in the scientific fields defined by the scientific field classification as follows: Natural sciences; Engineering and technology; Medicine and healthcare; Agricultural sciences; Social Sciences; Humanitarian sciences; Georgian Studies.
According to the 2018 competition terms, duration of the research project should be 2 years. Requested funding from SRNSFG should not exceed 30 000 GEL per year and 60 000 GEL per two years.
Funding required from the SRNSFG includes the following categories of expenditures: a) Young scientist’s stipend; 2) Research activity expenditure may include salary of supporting personnel; fieldwork and expedition related costs: travels costs; purchase of scientific/academic literature, including electronic materials and access to library foundations; expenditure of participation in scientific events (conferences, workshops, training, etc.) and/or research visit; professional association membership fee; costs of PC and technical equipment necessary for the research; dissemination and research results’ presentation costs.
The grantee is responsible to publish at least one scientific article on the basis of the research materials of the funded project in international peer-reviewed journals or proceedings of conference papers that are indexed in Scimago Journal Ranking, Scopus, Web of Science, ERIH plus as well as in the international peer-reviewed journals published with the financial support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia: a) Transactions of A. Razmadze Mathematical Institute, and b) Annals of Agrarian Science are also accepted.
